Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Captiond ("we", "our", or "us") handles your information when you use the Captiond app ("the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your data is used.
1. Information We Collect
Audio Data
When you import a video and request automatic captions, the App extracts the audio track from your video and sends it to our transcription server. That server forwards the audio to OpenAI's Whisper API to generate captions. The audio is processed in real time and is not stored by us or by OpenAI beyond the duration of the transcription request.
Usage and Analytics Data
The App uses Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to collect anonymous usage data. This includes information such as app launches, which features are used, and general app performance. This data is collected anonymously and cannot be used to identify you personally. It is used solely to improve the app experience.
Usage Limits
The App stores a count of how many transcriptions you have completed in the current calendar month. This data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to us.
Purchase Information
If you purchase the "Remove Watermark" upgrade, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment information, name, or Apple ID. We only receive a confirmation from Apple that the purchase was made.
No Account Required
The App does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifying information.
2. How We Use Your Information

We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
3. Data Sharing
We share data with the following third parties solely to provide the app's features:
OpenAI — Audio is forwarded to OpenAI's Whisper API for speech-to-text transcription. OpenAI's privacy policy is available at https://openai.com/privacy.
Google Firebase — Anonymous usage analytics are collected via Firebase Analytics. Google's privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties.
4. Data Retention
- Audio data is not retained. It is sent to OpenAI for transcription and discarded immediately after the response is returned.
- Your videos and caption projects are stored locally on your device only. We have no access to them.
- Usage counts are stored locally on your device and reset at the start of each calendar month.
- Analytics data is retained by Google Firebase in accordance with their data retention policy.
5. Your Videos Stay on Your Device
Your original video files and completed caption projects are never uploaded to our servers. They remain entirely on your device.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
7. Security
Audio data is transmitted to our proxy server and on to OpenAI over encrypted HTTPS connections. We do not store audio on our server — it is forwarded in real time and discarded.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
